Dental Implants

smile500x300Dental implants are threaded titanium rods that are surgically placed into the jawbone.  Implants act as anchors for individual artificial teeth, bridges, complete dentures or removable partial dentures.  The implant acts like the root of a tooth. Implants can benefit the well-being and lifestyle of the patient in many ways:

  • Allowing the chewing system to be restored; elimination of slippage, pain, discomfort or embarrassment
  • Speak without hesitation, no slipping dentures or partials
  • Improved dental hygiene, due to clear access around and between the teeth

Implants are used as the support system for many other fixed dental components:

  • Implant supported crowns: this is a dental restoration created by inserting a titanium root into the jaw and attaching an artificial tooth.  It has the appearance of a natural tooth embedded in your own natural gums.
  • Implant supported bridge: Similar to a fixed bridge, but supported by implants and crowns rather than sound teeth.
  • Implant Supported Dentures: Implants are placed in the bone under the dentures and help secure them into place.  There are a wide variety of attachments to retain either fixed or removable.
