Crowns and Bridges

CROWNS: A crown is a restoration that covers a tooth in order to strengthen and restore it to its normal shape and size.  Crowns can be made out of porcelain, metal, or a combination.  Dr. Larson only uses materials that will provide the longest lasting benefits to our patients.  Crowns may be placed in order to:

  • support a large filling when there is little remaining tooth structure
  • provide strength and support to a tooth that has been treated with root canal therapy
  • protect weak teeth from fracturing
  • restore fractured teeth
  • attach a bridge

  • consists of abutments (sound teeth or crowns) and the span (a metal framework with artificial teeth)
  • helps create a normal bite, and restores normal chewing function
  • prevents stress on the dental arch to avert drifting and tilt of adjacent teeth
  • inhibits decay in difficult areas and slows the onset of periodontal diseases.
